Optom2Optom is a free UK directory of optometrists searchable by specialty, equipment, and location. It exists because there has never been a structured pathway for optometrist-to-optometrist referral — and patients were missing out on specialists who could help them.
Every listing is verified against the GOC register. Listings are automatically reviewed each April and removed if registration has lapsed. No money passes through the site — patients contact and pay the practice directly.

Through the site: Fill in a short referral form. Sent to up to three practices simultaneously. Patient is contacted by the practice. One week later the patient receives a review link — the only way to leave a verified review.
Offline: Find the specialist here, give your patient their name and number. They call directly. Still counts as a directory hit. No verified review possible but unverified reviews can still be left.

What we collect from practitioners: Name, GOC number, account email address, practice name, location, phone number, website, specialties, equipment, fees, and bio — professional information provided voluntarily to appear in the directory and operate your account. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash: nobody, including us, can read them.
What we collect in referrals: Patient initials (never full names), the clinical reason given by the referring optometrist, and optionally a contact phone number or email and date of birth, together with confirmation that the patient has consented. A referral is visible only to the referring practitioner and the receiving practice — not to other members, not to visitors, and not routinely to the site administrator. Referral notification emails never contain patient information.
What we do not collect: Clinical records, prescriptions, diagnoses, images, or financial information.
Retention: Referral records are deleted or anonymised 12 months after completion. Practitioner accounts persist until you close them.
Where data lives: On servers provided by Fasthosts Internet Ltd (UK data centres), who act as our data processor. The site is served exclusively over HTTPS.
GOC verification: GOC numbers are checked manually against the publicly available register at str.optical.org on registration, and re-checked annually each April. Only verified practitioners appear in the directory.
Analytics: Aggregate counts only (searches, referrals sent, practices listed) for platform statistics. No individual browsing behaviour is tracked and no third-party analytics run on this site.
Your rights: You may access, correct, or delete your data at any time — edit your listing from "My practice", or email optom2optom@gmail.com to close your account (actioned within 48 hours). Patients named in a referral may exercise the same rights through either practice involved. You may also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
By creating an account you confirm that: (1) you hold a valid GOC registration, (2) the information you provide is accurate and kept up to date, (3) you consent to verification against the GOC register on registration and annually, with automatic delisting if your registration lapses.
By sending a referral through the site you confirm the patient has consented to it, and you agree to include only the minimum information needed — initials, reason, and optional contact details. Do not put clinical records or full patient identities into a referral.
Optom2Optom is a directory and referral-tracking service only. We do not facilitate payments, provide clinical advice, or accept liability for any clinical outcome arising from a referral made through this directory. The referring and receiving practitioners remain solely responsible for the clinical care of the patient at all times.
Listings containing false information will be removed. Optom2Optom reserves the right to suspend or remove any account or listing at its discretion.
Reviews, when available, must be based on genuine experience. Submitting false reviews is a breach of these terms and may be reported to the GOC.
Optom2Optom uses one strictly-necessary cookie: a session cookie that keeps you logged in. It contains no personal data, is not used for tracking, and is deleted when your session ends — this category of cookie does not require a consent banner under UK rules. The site also uses browser local storage for minor conveniences on your own device. No advertising or tracking cookies are used, and no third-party analytics platforms run on this site. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated first.
